This simple phrase is something that I’ve often repeated during my last 15 years as a designer.
It can be easy to get caught up in the comparison game and to feel like everyone around you has life figured out and is producing better work / making more money / achieving more, especially with a quick scroll through the ‘gram.
In a world that feels increasingly busier and louder, it’s important to pause and remember that for something to be long lasting, there’s value in building slowly and steadily with great intention.
I remember feeling behind when I went back to college for a completely new career at 25 years old.
I remember feeling behind when I started my first design job and every designer who was my age already had 5 years of experience under their belt.
I remember feeling behind when I started this design studio and many women I was friends with had started their business years before and were already turning decent profits with a steady stream of clients.
And then, I realized that we all have these feelings from time to time. Life isn’t about trying to keep up with others, it’s about carving out a path that feels aligned to you. After all, you’re the one who has to exist in it!
It’s possible to get to exactly where you want to go with focus and perseverance — nothing needs to happen overnight.
Keep showing up and putting in the work and you will get to exactly where you’re wanting to go in due time.
One foot in front of the other.
Slowly, steadily.
Enjoy the journey. -Shauna
